A week ago, the couple who recently moved in graciously allowed me to meet the original owners' daughter and her family at the Eichler. Thank you M & J!
It was nice to finally meet Dr. and Mrs. H's family on their way to Dr. H's memorial service that weekend. I hope they enjoyed seeing the house one more time as did I -- perhaps a little closure for all of us.
I will continue to post about our Sacramento Eichler neighborhood, Eichler Homes history and other mid-century modern architecture, design and resources. I would also like to feature other neighborhood homes in this blog.

The difference between a house and a home
We are blessed again with pictures of Dr. and Mrs. H's family and home, courtesy of their wonderful family and to whom I am very grateful. What moves me about seeing these, and I believe what is inherently compelling about these images -- is that we see the house being loved and cared for by a family. Seeing it as a home.
This resonates with me particularly at a difficult time when people are losing their homes. Let us all be thankful for what we have, reflect on the good times, and look forward to better times ahead.

Don't take my Kodachrome away

I discovered a cache of old slides from the former owners, Dr. & Mrs. H in the rumpus/TV room. These show the house in the late 60's through early 80's. With kind permission, the original family has allowed me to scan and add these to this blog. This first picture is of the house in April, 1970.

Many thanks to the family for letting me share these wonderful pictures! And thanks to Bryan Darling from Home Movie Store (located nearby in South Land Park, right below William Land Park/Funderland) for digitizing these. If you have any old format images or movies from the past, I recommend taking them to Bryan -- he is also a mid-century enthusiast and does a great job.
Original owners, Dr. & Mrs. H.
I thought I'd raise a toast to Dr. and Mrs. H., the original owners of our Eichler. Though we never had the honor of meeting them, a few photographs were left behind. They were avid travelers, art collectors and intellectuals with impeccable taste. Dr. H. was a Urologist at UC Davis Medical Center and was also an amateur photographer. They were well liked in the neighborhood. I'll post more as I learn more about them.
Cheers!
